September 2012 - Collect-a-Can recycling depot in Pretoria reopens

Silverton, Pretoria - Collect-a-Can’s recycling depot in Pretoria is set to officially reopen in September this year after it was closed for 15 months. The new facility has been built to the highest industry standards with safety and sustainability at the top of the priority list.

Announcing the plans to reopen the Pretoria Branch, Zimasa Velaphi, Public Relations and Marketing Manager for Collect-a-Can says, “This decision underlines the firm commitment of Collect-a-Can to constantly improve our recycling activities and increase the recovery rate of used cans. Collect-a-Can has a long history of working with the community to recover, reuse and recycle cans and the decision to re-open the Pretoria branch strengthens our focus on community building and sustainability.”

Recycling is still a hassle for many suburban households and organisations in South Africa as they generally have to separate their own waste and take the recyclables to a drop-off center. Collect-a-Can’s Pretoria depot has been instrumental in making this task easier and in ensuring that the recovery rate of used cans increases on a yearly basis.  Collect-a-Can has invested considerable effort and capital into re-establishing the Pretoria branch.

“Although the official branch re-opening is still to take place, the branch is already accepting cans again.” says Velaphi. “We’d like to encourage all community members, schools, churches businesses and recycling entrepreneurs to start bringing their cans back to the Collect-a-Can depot again.”
