May 2013 - Can you create a creative CAN Craze construction?

For all those budding creative geniuses at school, put your talent to good use in this year’s Collect-a-Can CAN Craze Competition and stand a chance of winning a share of R60 000 for you or your school!
Collect-a-Can’s CAN Craze Competition for 2013 is launching on 01 June,  and challenges learners to build imaginative structures from 300 or more used cans, in the most inspired way possible. The structures can take any form – creativity is key, so let your mind run wild.
The cans used in the building of these structures need to be collected by the participants; after which they will be recovered by Collect-a-Can and processed for recycling. This process demonstrates the environmental benefits of collecting cans and shows schools and learners that recycling can be fun, while encouraging learners to be more eco-conscious.

“We would like to encouraging the kids to think outside the can”, says Zimasa Velaphi, Public Relations and Marketing Manager of Collect-a-Can. “The CAN Craze Competition teaches learners that what may seem like trash, can be a valuable resource that can be re-used in their artwork and then recycled, prolonging the lifespan of the raw materials and preserving natural resources as well as energy”.

“This is also an opportunity for sponsors and corporates to get involved”, says Velaphi. “How about getting your local school to build your logo from cans?”

Pictures of the structures need to be submitted to Collect-a-Can along with a completed entry form which can be obtained from Collect-a-Can branches or from their website
The three most creative structures, as chosen by a panel of Collect-a-Can judges, will each receive a share of the prize money; the winning structure will receive R30 000, the 2nd place winner will receive R20 000 and the 3rd place winner will receive R10 000.
Who would have thought that a pile of trash could win you a share of R60 000 cash?
